43 Monkeys got escaped from US Research Lab

Police are looking for 43 monkeys who escaped from a research institution in South Carolina after a keeper left their enclosure open. The rhesus macaque fugitives escaped Alpha Genesis, a facility that produces monkeys for medical testing and research, and are currently on the loose in the state's Lowcountry. Authorities have asked people to keep their doors and windows firmly locked and to report any sightings as soon as possible. According to the Yemassee Police Department, the fugitive monkeys are young females weighing approximately 7 pounds (3.2 kilograms). Police stated on Thursday that the company had spotted the "skittish" gang and was "trying to entice them with food."

Please do not approach these animals under any circumstances," police advised. Traps had been put in the vicinity, according to the statement, and police were on-site "utilizing thermal imaging cameras in an attempt to locate the animals". According to police, the study company informed them that the monkeys have not yet been tested and "are too young to carry disease" due to their size. Alpha Genesis' CEO, Greg Westergaard, has called the escape "frustrating". He told CBS News, the BBC's US partner network, that he was "hoping for a happy ending" and expected the monkeys to return to the institution on their own.

Mr Westergaard stated that the monkeys fled on Wednesday after a keeper left an open door to their outside area. He stated that they were currently "hanging out in the woods". "It's really like following the leader. "You see one go and the others go," Mr Westergaard explained. "It was a group of 50 and 7 stayed behind and 43 bolted out the door." "There are some little things to eat in the woods but no apples which what they really like," he informed me, "so we are hoping that will draw them in the next day or two" .Speaking to South Carolina newspaper The Post and Courier, he noted that capturing the monkeys had been made more difficult by the weather, saying efforts were "hampered a bit by the rain as the monkeys are hunkered down".
