Surgeons Perform First-Ever Robotic Double Lung Transplant

A team of surgeons in New York has become the first one in the world to complete a fully robotic double lung transplant. NYU Langone Health has declared that on October 22, they conducted the surgery on a 57-year-old woman. The woman was diagnosed with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).

Information about chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a widespread lung condition that causes reduced airflow and breathing difficulties. It is also known as emphysema or chronic bronchitis. In COPD patients, the lungs might become damaged or clogged with mucus. Symptoms include a cough, occasionally with phlegm, trouble breathing, wheezing, and fatigue.Smoking and air pollution are the leading causes of COPD. People with COPD are more likely to develop other health concerns. COPD is not curable, although symptoms can be improved by quitting smoking and limiting exposure to air pollution, as well as receiving vaccinations to prevent infections. Treatment options include medications, oxygen, and pulmonary rehabilitation.

Surgeneons used the Da Vinci Xi robotic system, which in the past has been used for single lung transplants, and they have been successful in terms of single lung transplants. In October, this was the time to perform the transplant, and it was a historic moment and scary. Also, it is a risky thing to do. "Normally doctors give either a really big incision across their entire chest to do this type of transplant, this statement was said by Dr. Stephanie Chang. And Dr. Chang has also been saying that they and their team were being ready for this transplant these seven long hours for six months, and this is the time for it to be done.

Dr. Chang was very honest about the transplant. They have said that we like to do this transplant of both lungs with the robots. We've never done it before; you will be the first in the world. Doctors were very clear about it, and they have said that doesn't raise up the hope. At the end, they were successful in their transplant, and now the woman is very happy after the transplant.
