Could a bird strike have caused South Korea plane crash?

This situation has happened in South Korea and the South Korean government has been investigating this situation. It has been said that 179 people have been dead in that plane crash and this has been considered the worst plane crash in the country. Moments before the plane was about to land air traffic control warned the aircraft about the bird strike and it was said that the plane caption had been warned about it they were said to have been on alert because there was a chance of birds colliding with the plane.

In the us, more than 19,600 wildlife strikes were reported to the Federal Aviation Administration in 2023 and it was mainly about birds crashing into the plane. There were over 1400 birdstrikes in the UK in 2022 more than 100 planes were affected by it. According to Lee Jeong-hyun, the head of the Muan Fire Department, the crash may have been caused by a bird strike and severe weather, but the precise cause is still being looked into.

Aviation expert Chris Kingswood, a pilot with over 40 years of experience who has flown the same type of aircraft involved in the crash, said video footage does not clearly illustrate the reason for the tragedy. However, he noted that the plane was without its landing gear and was not deploying its flaps as planned, implying that "everything happened really quite quickly".

Pilots at low altitudes would have to make "a huge number of decisions in a very short space of time" if a bird hit disables both engines, he continued, therefore altitude is paramount. He stated that if the engines fail, there is an alternative mechanism that will run both the landing gear and the flaps.
A bird strike is not uncommon, nor are difficulties with the undercarriage," Geoffrey Thomas, editor of Airline News, told Reuters."Bird hits are significantly more common, although they rarely result in the loss of an aircraft on their own.
