South Korea president apologises for martial law declaration

Yoon had been unable to carry out his usual responsibilities, the head of his ruling People Power Party (PPP) informed reporters in reaction to the president's speech."His early resignation was unavoidable," said Han Dong-hoon."I am very sorry and would like to sincerely apologize to the people who were shocked," Yoon said in his brief televised statement."About the declaration of martial law, I shall not evade any legal or political responsibility.

During his first speech to the country since martial law was imposed, there were rumors that he might step down, but he chose to assign his ruling party the task of stabilizing the situation instead. Opposition MPs reacted with jeers and screams of anger as the speaker chastised them for leaving."This is ignoring the will of the people," remarked the president. Although some party MPs returned to the floor, the bill fell short of the 200 members required to pass it.

The greatest risk facing South Korea right now is the very existence of the president."Yoon's actions have offended more than just lawmakers. Yang Soonsil, 50, owns a seafood shop at Namdaemun Market in Seoul, South Korea.  She felt panic and disbelief."I have lost complete trust in him [Yoon] as a president, I don't think he's my president anymore," she told the reporter."We need to fight until the end, we can't let him maintain his position as president."
