A Dominican Republic nightclub's roof collapsed, killing at least fifteen people. Many more are hurt, and rescue personnel are still working to extract individuals from the rubble. Juan Manuel Méndez, head of the Emergency Operations Centre (COE), stated that rescue crews were still searching for survivors under the wreckage.
He stated that more than 100 ambulance visits had been made to the local hospitals, sometimes transporting multiple patients. Officials are currently determining the total number of persons injured. The preliminary number of those dead is 15. Mr Méndez expressed hope that many of those buried under the fallen roof were still alive. Jet Set is a prominent nightclub in the capital that features dance music concerts every Monday evening.
Video footage purportedly recorded inside the club shows customers seated at tables before the stage and dancing to the music in the rear while Rubby Pérez performs. A man standing near the stage is heard stating, "Something fell from the ceiling," as he points to the roof in a different mobile phone recording posted on social media.
In the film, singer Rubby Pérez appears to be staring in the direction pointed out by the man. Less than 30 seconds later, a noise is heard, and the recording goes blank, with a lady shouting "Dad, what's happened to you?" According to one of Rubby Pérez's band members, the club was filled when the collapse occurred "at around 1 am "." I thought it was an earthquake,"
